What to do if your lights suddenly go
off |
An electrical consumer unit, commonly
known as a fuse box, is the central
control hub for your property's
electricity, distributing power from the
main supply to various circuits. It
protects residents and the property from
electrical hazards like fires,
overloads, and electric shocks. If your
electricity suddenly cuts out, the
following advice may help: |
- Keep a
torch ready somewhere which
would be easily found if it's dark
- Open your
consumer box lid. The On/Off switch
may be in the off position. If it
isn't, one of the mini circuit
breakers may be off.
- Turn this
mini circuit breaker on - if it
won't turn on, then this may mean
that an electrical item you are
using has failed
- Turn off
any electrical items like toasters,
ovens, air fryers etc. and try
turning the electricity on again.
This way, you can identify the
faulty item.
Remember, the
mini circuit breakers are there to keep
you safe from serious electric shocks.
